The NAMI ONLINE Connection Peer Support Groups for Individuals in Recovery is a peer-led support group for any adult who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. Gain insight from the challenges and successes of others facing similar circumstances.  All groups and programs are led by trained leaders with lived experience (they’ve been there).

Family-to-Family for Families, Loved Ones, and Caregivers

NAMI ONLINE Family-to-Family, for people caring for loved ones with a mental health condition, is a FREE 16-hour peer-lead educational program for Families, Loved Ones, and Caregivers of anyone who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition.  This program includes activities, discussions and informative videos that will help you to better understand your loved one.  However, as with all NAMI programs, it does not include recommendations for treatment approaches.  All groups and programs are led by trained leaders with lived experience (they’ve been there).

NAMI MidTidewater will be running an

ONLINE  Family-to-Family Course Jan - Feb 2024.  

  Every Tuesday night

January 9 through February 27

 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.

There is no cost for this course, but registration is required.  You can get more information and register by sending a request to namimidtidewater@gmail.com or by calling (804)684-1480.  You will need to leave voicemail that includes a callback number and some best times to call.  Please indicate if it is all right to leave a message at the callback number.

Group Guidelines

 

1. Start and stop on time

2. Time limit for Check In

3. Absolute confidentiality

4. Be respectful

5. Be mindful of others; no monopolizing or cross talk

6. Keep it in the here and now

7. Empathize with each other’s situation

Principles of Support

 

1. We will see the individual first, not the illness.

2. We recognize that mental illnesses are medical illnesses that may have environmental triggers.

3. We understand that mental illnesses are traumatic events.

4. We aim for better coping skills.

5. We find strength in sharing experiences.

6. We reject stigma and do not tolerate discrimination.

7. We won’t judge anyone’s pain as less than our own.

8. We forgive ourselves and reject guilt.

9. We embrace humor as healthy.

10. We accept we cannot solve all problems.

11. We expect a better future in a realistic way.

12. We will never give up hope.
